Adult Learn to Figure Skate

Adult LTFS offers the development of figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and artistic skating. Adults are in small groups rotating through coaches working on all the disciplines of figure skating. Skaters work in a group setting as well as individually during their ice time. Whether you used to figure skate as a child or if you are new to figure skating and have always wanted to try it, we work with each skater’s level and cater to the areas they need more assistance with.

Adult LTFS skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system through this programming.

The ALTFS program will consist of 1 hour of on ice training rotating through a team of our certified coaches. We will be offering the ALTFS program two days a week as well as off ice classes held either before or after the on ice sessions. Off ice is equally as important as on ice training and skaters are expected to attend all sessions.

*Figure skates are required for this program*

Adult STAR is available for Adult skaters interested on working independently as well as receiving private or semi-private lessons with a coach. Please email the Skating Director for more information about this program. Adult STAR skaters will receive a combination of private, semi-private and group lessons along with off ice training.

Disciplines of figure skating:

Skills are a combination of fundamental skating movements, executed on a pattern and skated solo. The objective of the Skating Skills program is mastery of the basic fundamentals of skating – edge quality, control, power and speed.

Dance teaches timing, musicality, rhythm interpretation, structure as well as basic skating skills such as edges, flow, control and unison.

Freeskate consists of the execution of jumps, spins, footwork, field movements and stroking, either in isolation or performed in sequence to music.

Artistic develops the skater’s creativity, expression, musicality, movement, interpretation of music, as well as the use of space, rhythm, line and style. The program provides skaters with the opportunity to explore the performance aspect of skating without focusing on technical elements.

Volunteer Credits and Fundraising
Figure 8 Skating Club is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The success of the Club depends on the volunteer contributions of its members. Parents of PreSTAR and STARSkate participants, as well as Adult Learn to Figure Skate participants, are required to commit to 12 credits of volunteer time as well as assist with fundraising. Alternatively, a volunteer buy out fee in the amount of $300 can be made to the Club in lieu of volunteer requirement. If the volunteer commitment and/or the fundraising requirement is not performed, the Club reserves the right to process the volunteer buyout fee at the end of the season.

Volunteer positions are selected during online registration. Positions will be available on a first come, first served basis.
