Jr. Academy is a program for skaters ages 9 and under who are interested in pursuing figure skating as a competitive sport. Skaters must commit to skate at least 2 days per week, supplementing their private lessons with this program. All skaters must have permission from the Skating Director before registering in this class.
The Jr. Academy program will consist of a 45 minute group lesson with the skating director (15 min stroking and 30 min freeskate technique), and a 15 minute individual practice session, followed by a 30min off ice class. On and off ice classes are equally as important and skaters are expected to attend all sessions.
The Figure 8 Skating Club is governed by a volunteer board of directors. The success of the Club depends on the volunteer efforts of the members. Jr. Academy parents may choose to donate a fee of $150 a the time of registration or volunteer for the Club. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure they fulfill the minimum 10 credit requirement if they would like their cheque returned. Volunteer credit will be available when you register online. It will be on a first come first serve. Here is the list of positions for 2017-2018 Volunteer credits.
